If you’re planning to move after retirement, we’ve curated a list, in no particular order, of the top retirement destinations for this year. This ranking factors in affordability, crime rate, walkability, qualify of life, and climate.
Our list consists of destinations all over the country, with different climates and demographics.
- 1. Carlsbad, California - This upscale beach town is just 35 miles north of San Diego and is a retiree’s paradise. With a warm, sunny, Mediterranean climate, Carlsbad has both a booming tourism industry, and large retiree population.
- 2. Asheville, North Carolina - Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, this retirement haven offers both mild weather, and scenic vistas.
- 3. Austin, Texas - Texas’s capital city is an affordable cultural hub with mild winters, making it a great place for retirees. If art and culture is your thing, Austin is the place to be. It has an abundance of museums, theaters, and it’s the live music capital of the world.
